Don't listen to the bad reviews! July 1, 2010 L. Huynh (California) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Hi I am a certified customer which means that I actually have the product right here. As a matter of fact I am using it right now as I write this review. It is a very reliable laptop, I have been using it for awhile now and as of yet I have had no problems with it whatsoever. I played Portal and Team Fortress 2 on the highest settings possible with absolutely smooth gameplay. The battery life does last up to 3 hours, which is extremely impressive for a laptop this size. It is a gaming laptop and that is where it delivers! The games play smoothly and the GTX 260m graphics card works very well, especially with the Windows 7 64-bit OS that maximizes the 4gigs of RAM it has onboard. It is a great laptop for the price! Only complaint I have with it is that it runs a little hot when using intense applications such as gaming, but it cools very, very fast after about ten minutes of leaving it idle with no applications running. Also, some people have complained that the screen is not quite full 1080p resolution but 720p looks good on this screen still. You can always opt to connect an HDMI cable to an HDTV or a monitor if you want full 1080p anyways. It's not as big or bulky as other 17 inch laptops and it works very well. Very stylish, fast, and well worth your money. I guarantee it. As a matter of fact, I promise you it's worth your money. Look at the other reviews other than on Amazon and you will see that they are all positive reviews!
Very Satisfied! August 7, 2010 Jennifer Provinzano (Minnesota) After my old computer conveniently crashed down about a week after the year Warranty ran out, I was in a mad dash to find a new one. I'm a gamer and love to play computer games, and media and all that fun stuff on my computer while also using it for a business. Of course any Laptop shopper would know those laptops get very verrry pricey. Running across this laptop was the best thing ever, and within my budget which was also a great plus!
With some extended insurance and a laptop rack to keep it from overheating I can safely say that I have not had any problems with this computer besides it blue screening on me once and I almost want to say that was my fault for loading too many things at once and it overheated. But it bounced back and I have been loving every minute, including writing this review, of my Gateway FX laptop!
I highly recommend this product to anyone who's looking for a good performing laptop within a good pricing range. If your like me and don't have $3,000 to put down on a laptop (or build your own because those get pricey too) with great gaming features and awesome storage (i mean 500GB?? awesome!), then this is a great laptop.
It does heat up, but think of all that's working inside of it...of course it's going to heat up! Buy one of the cooling pads or cooling racks, and some extended insurance and you can't go wrong with this package.
Now my excitement woo-hoo is done for the day I shall leave any and all to their decisions haha!
good enough February 5, 2010 Pavel Malikov (RU) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this laptop before the new year for my girlfriend. She was very pleased. Gateway offers a large enough performance for this price. Moreover, this laptop is a gaming notebook. As regards price&quality is an excellent choice.
Excellent Baby January 30, 2010 Frank Simon 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Great choice, excellent performance, weight a bit of concern; waited too long to hit the market; baby is just cute!
Whoa... they killed the screen? March 7, 2010 Erik H. Reppen (Chicago) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
My original review was a five star based on my experience with the older p7811FX model that was an exclusive at Best Buy. I've been very happy with the performance but I think the screen resolution for the newer versions is a corner they probably shouldn't have cut. It would probably be worth adding 150 or so to the price-point. To be fair I think the p7811fx was a marketing scheme to drum up popularity for the line and it was certainly priced at a steal, but the new resolution is a little low for a gaming laptop of this size.
