5 out of 5 stars Great new HyperTransport technology!   February 6, 2010

What a great new technology is that AMD HyperTransport, which eliminates number of buses on the system and avoids data transfer bottlenecks, plaguing old FSB systems. Surprisingly, this AMD TF-20 1.6GHz system is noticeably faster and running smoother than similarly priced Intel Celeron 900-based systems with 2.2 GHz processor and double sized L2 cache.

Also, this laptop has a great ATI Radeon 3200 graphics chip, which also helps to balance and speed up the processing load of the system.

Our Acer is running perfectly. I bought it for my wife, who uses it for videos, MP3's, browsing internet, word processing and not much else.

I set it up by first downloading and installing a free, wonderful Revo uninstaller, available everywhere. Then I uninstalled all the preinstalled junk, like McAfee antivirus, MS Office trial, Adobe Acrobat Reader and other useless and bulky stuff. Did it using option 4 on the Revo uninstaller, which removes all the leftovers of any software from the registry. Then I installed her the following wonderful freeware: Firefox and Chrome for browsing, PDF Xchange viewer, VLC Player for audio and video, Irfanview for photo viewing and basic editing, Abiword for word processing, Glary utilities for system maintenance, Avast antivirus, Spyware Blaster, Wordweb (a thesaurus and dictionary), Skype and that's about it. Of course, updated all drivers and Windows 7. And here it is - a frugal but smooth running, fast, modern and really wonderful Acer notebook.

5 out of 5 stars Great Deal!   October 27, 2009

I got this laptop about 24hrs ago, and love it! It is great for the basic stuff like running word and internet. The price is what sold me on this laptop. Its screen is great and with the 3GB of ram it runs fast. I downsized processor from 1.8GHz to this 1.6GHz but I could not tell just by running it. Windows 7 has been fun to play with also! I really like the side by side open windows. Overall you can't get a better deal!

5 out of 5 stars Solid bang for the buck!   February 16, 2010

Preface-I only paid $329.00 for this machine and I have an iMac for Video editing. If you realize what this machine is and what it is designed for, I don't think there is a better bargain right now.

Win 7 64 bit runs great on this machine, even with a single core processor. BUT....... you can upgrade this processor to a dual core AMD chip for less than $40. Add in the best integrated video card made, 3 GB RAM and an HD 720P Resolution Widescreen, and you have a great deal.

Some little things that I LOVE about this laptop are the physical on/off toggle for WiFi and the touchpad. These are amazingly convenient things that you might not consider looking for when shopping, but they are super useful. Since I use a wireless mouse, I find the AC Adapter location on the left side to be perfect. I had a Lenovo Ideapad that put the plug on the right side and it was a giant pain. It runs cool and is very quiet. I threw a 4GB SD card in the reader for Readyboost and I feel like this is faster than 64 bit Vista was on the aforementioned Lenovo(T5800 Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz and 4GB RAM). I run full screen ripped DVD's with no problem, run off the optical drive no problem(movies look great!) and run Office 2007 without a glitch.

I do wish it had a physical volume rocker at least 1 more USB port, but for $329, I really can't complain.

5 out of 5 stars Darn good puter!   March 17, 2010

I have owned this computer for 6 months and it still runs like new. It does just about anything you would normally do. In the ad it never said it had a mic or camera so who ever posted that was refering to a different model. I've had it for six months and I live on it due to my job and home life, and is just like new. What is sad is when I purchased this laptop I had never heard of this company and the computer is exellent, but before I had a Sony Vaio and it didn't last but 6mo.s and BestBuy replaced it with this one due to product malfunction. I have to say somtimes name brands are not all they are cracked up to be. One thing to remember is to get educated about protecting your computer and do what is necessary and you should not have any serious problems. I was very uneducated when I first got a puter and it took me 3 yrs. to understand it so I understand easier said than done, but take the time to protect it it is in the end a machine not alive and cannot fix itself and protect itself without your help.

5 out of 5 stars Respectable Performance & Design.   January 12, 2010

I have been using this Windows 7 loaded laptop for about a month and find it to be very responsive and fun to use. I currently also own an HP desktop running Vista Home Premium and bought this Acer primarily for extended road trips and vacations so I could keep in touch by e-mail and have additional entertainment options.

I have loaded my entire collection of music CD's, and photos and still have room to spare on the generous 160gb hard drive. The WiFi connectivity is very easy to use and I have had no connection problems either at home with my Qwest Service nor at Barnes & Noble or Starbucks. I use a wireless Logitech mouse instead of the touch pad, but before I did, cannot say the touchpad was any different from others I have used, including the touchpad on the Dell Inspiron.

This is a light weight and stylish laptop that I enjoy taking with me everywhere I go. The LCD screen is very bright and images look great in HD. My only gripe might be the short battery life. Even with the screen brightness turned down, (which the Acer does automatically once you unplug the power cord) I get only a little over 2 hours of usage. It would be great to have more, but this is a small gripe given the other useful features and the low price I paid for this laptop...$300.00 at Best Buy. The unit also does not have an HDMI port for connecting to an HDTV. It does however have a VGA port (15 pin).

Overall I find this to be a low cost alternative to a fully loaded laptop that I will be using mainly for e-mail, surfing the net, and burning the occasional CD/DVD. I will update this review after a few months of usage to confirm it's reliability. So far, I couldn't be happier.
